The FTU disassembly process started

At the ENEA Research Center in Frascati, the activity of preparation of the spaces on which the DTT will be allocated have started. The works includes the disassembly, loading, transport, and recovery (or disposal) of the material present inside numerous buildings on the ENEA site.

The activities will be carried out by VI.BI. Elettrorecuperi of Piancogno, Italy, a specialized company that won the public tender, and will coordinated by NUC-PLAS-DTT Laboratory of ENEA.

Much of the intervention concerns the Frascati Tokamak Upgrade (FTU), the historic Italian Torus which, from 1989 to 2019, collecting the legacy of the previous FT Tokamak, provided very important contributions to international research in fusion technologies.

The activities began with the removal of the electrical transformers and other FTU equipment; in Figs. 1-3 some images of the removal of FTU's RF transformers are shown. The program envisages that the entire FTU machine will be dismantled and rebuilt, in museum form, as a historical testimony of an important trait of Italian research in the sector of the future energy.
