The deliveries of the SC cables for the TFC coil goes ahead

Last January, the superconducting (SC) cable for the construction of the seventh DTT toroidal field coil (TFC#07) was delivered to the ASG plant in La Spezia (Italy).

The cable was produced by ICAS, an Italian company born from ENEA's experience in the superconductivity field. For its production, 420 Nb3Sn wires and 180 copper wires were twisted; the cable, approximately 1100 m long, is enclosed in a 2 mm thick AISI 316LN steel sheath. The conductor designed to carry an operating current of 42.5 kA at 4.5 K, in a maximum magnetic field of 11.9 T.
