Fusion Energy: huge step at JET

On February 9, the Joint European Torus (JET) announced the production of 59 MJ of fusion energy, with almost constant power over a period of about 5 s.

The news was announced by Ian Chapman, CEO of UKAEA, and Tony Donné, Program Director of EUROfusion, at the presence of George Freeman, UK Minister for Research, Bernard Bigot, Director of ITER, and with the contribution of some researchers of the Team .

This is an important step in the road map towards the commercial use of Magnetic Confinement Fusion.

Since the 1970s, the design, financing, construction and management of operations have benefited, at the highest levels, from the decisive contribution of the Italian scientific community and the  Italian industry.

Many members of the group that currently designs and builds DTT have had and still  have important collaborations with JET, contributing significantly to its results; some of them have held top management roles.
