First DTT ECRH Gyrotron under construction

The first Gyrotron of the Electron Cyclotron Resonant Heating system for the DTT has been assembled at Vélizy, THALES premise and its baking is completed. The acceptance is foreseen by the end of 2023, after the factory acceptance test at Falcon Test Facility, Lausanne.

The contract for the pre-series gyrotrons was signed in 2022, after the framework contract resulting of the procedure for a Joint Procurement between DTT and F4E.

The ECRH system will be capable of generating 16 MW for the first plasma.

The Gyrotron is a diode type with collector potential depression and cryo-magnet (He-free) operating at 170 GHz with an efficiency ~40% for 100 s. During the Final Design Review meeting (March 2023), promising results from short pulse prototype test has been presented by THALES, fully compliant with the DTT requirements.
