Following the DTT request submitted last year, on 4 March 2022, the Italian Minister of Economic Development granted the DTT to operate as a Category A nuclear device.

The license approval process involved several important bodies, including the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of the Interior Affairs, the National Inspectorate for Nuclear Safety and Radio-Protection ISIN (the Italian technical body for nuclear safety), and the Lazio Region government. 

All of them provided a positive advice except for some minor prescriptions relevant to Construction, Commissioning, Operation, Test & Maintenance and Decommissioning phases.

The long and qualified experience gained by ENEA in the past has been considered with great interest by the safety authorities. 

The result is very positive both for the promptness of the response, in comparison with the normal processing times, and for the widely positive judgment of the various judgment bodies about the completeness and accuracy of the documentation.
