A 60-ton delivery for DTT 

At the end of 2025, a new system for DTT arrived in Frascati: the power supply system for the non-axisymmetric in-vessel coils (NAS).

The NAS system is designed to provide energy for 27 coils installed inside DTT vacuum vessel, in close proximity to the plasma, which operates at extremely high temperatures (millions of Celsius degrees). This configuration enables precise, real-time correction of plasma instabilities.

The delivery included more than 60 tons of electronic equipment, manufactured by EEI S.p.A. in Vicenza, Italy. The system was realised thank to the experience gained with a smaller-scale power supply developed for the international fusion experiment JT-60SA in Japan.

Following successful completion of integrated acceptance tests, the system demonstrated its ability to reach 2,500 A and 400 V on each of the 27 coils.

The procurement was funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) and was completed in line with the Plan’s schedule.
