The DTT toroidal field (TF) coils are rated for a current up to 42.5 kA. The contract for the procurement of the TF power supply was assigned to the Spanish company Jema Energy in 2022.
The strict requirements (as high current, low ripple and high accuracy) lead to a 24-pulses configuration, that is not usual in nuclear fusion. In particular the increase in nominal current, compared to similar recent creations, is very significant (about 60% compared to those of JT60SA).
The power supply system was completely assembled in the Jema facility in San Sebastian to be subjected to several tests, attended by the DTT experts. During the tests, the full current was successfully achieved, also verifying the protection and control systems for future integration.
After these tests, the power supply system will be delivered to the Frascati Coil Cold Test Facility, where it will be used for the challenging mission of testing, at cryogenic temperatures and full currents, most of the DTT superconducting coils, including all 18 TF coils, the PF6, the PF1 and all the 6 CS.
