11th July 2022. The tests for qualifying the DTT Toroidal Field coils cable have started in the SULTAN facility at the Swiss Plasma Center of the Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne.
The cable, based on the Nb3Sn superconducting technology, are supplied by the Italian Consortium ICAS using strands supplied by the Korean company KISWIRE LTD.
Aim of the test is to qualify the design and fabrication of the conductor in two alternative layouts, characterized by different twist pitches. The result of the tests will contribute to the finalization of the cable layout and to the start of the series production. The tests will also provide important information about the pressure drop experienced by the supercritical He flowing inside the conductor.
